More from Laurie Beach

Published at September 25, 2011

We went back to Laurie Beach again on Saturday to shoot the river flowing down into the ocean there. I got a couple of decent images from this trip, and then started playing with my IR-converted camera to see what I could get from that. ...

Laurie Beach

Published at September 22, 2011

Jen and I went out to Laurie beach Wednesday night for a sunset shoot to break us out of our summer slump. I managed to get a couple of keepers out of the trip, hopefully it’ll be the start of much more frequent shooting and posting. ...

Niagara Falls

Published at August 3, 2011

Jen and I spent this past weekend in Ontario for a wedding. We didn’t do much photo-wise, but we did manage to sneak in a trip to Niagara Falls, and out on Maid of the Mist....

Sheep

Published at July 18, 2011

While on the Camera 35 trip to St. Mary’s, we stopped in Branch to see the sheep, horses, and some of us saw some interesting birds....

Point Lance Beach

As a break from the birds, here’s a landscape of Point Lance Beach, near St. Bride’s, NL....

Yellow Warbler

Published at June 30, 2011

This little guy was circling us for a good twenty minutes at Ship Cove, on the way back from St. Mary’s. It must have been something to see, no less than six of us lined off on the side of the road with our longest lenses, all trying to shoot this little bird (and it’s friend). He didn’t stay in one spot for very long, so I captures a number of frames with no bird as well....

Gannet Landing

Published at June 28, 2011

This will be the first of several photos from the Camera 35 trip to St. Mary’s. We had a good time, and it’s going to take some time to get everything processed to my satisfaction....

Callanish Standing Stones

Published at June 21, 2011

I saw a B&W photo of these stones over on 500px.com the other day and it occurred to me that while I was never really happy with how my photos there turned out, I never tried them in B&W. The colour version always seemed uninteresting, but with some dodging & burning the monochrome has a lot more impact. Perhaps I need a note next to my monitor that says: “Did you remember to try that in B&W?...

Freshwater Bay

Published at June 5, 2011

Jen, Chris, and myself took a hike down to Freshwater Bay yesterday afternoon. It ended up being a really nice day; which, unfortunately, meant the light wasn’t great for photos. But we made the best of it and I managed to get a couple of shots worth processing....

Henry's Photowalk

Published at April 11, 2011

This past weekend, Henry’s put off a photowalk through the downtown area of St. John’s, which a number of people I know participated in. I wasn’t very motivated or inspired by my surroundings (I don’t care much for downtown St. John’s), so I figured I’d give my IR-converted camera a shot and just get something different. I made most of these a B&W treatment that’s more like a traditional IR image, instead of false colour that you often see these days....

Icy Duck

Published at April 1, 2011

This is a shot I took for the Camera 35 ‘Winter Wonderland’ theme. I wasn’t originally going to bother to post it anywhere, because I thought I could have done better, but just didn’t have the time or motivation at the time. Well, the results came back for the competition last night and it took second place–so the judges must have liked it. Given the results, I figured that I’d toss it up here for the flickr community to see....

Prepare for Splashdown

Another test of my new lens, this time in Bowring Park....

Lincoln's Sparrow

Published at February 10, 2011

I saw this little feller while I was down by the lake testing out a new (to me) 100-400mm lens....

Foggy Morning

Published at January 10, 2011

Here are a couple of photos I took this morning on the way to work. This one is a pano stitch of about 24 photos. I love the resolution in it though–with the full res file, I can zoom in and pick out individual gulls on the lake. ...
